Kombucha In Skincare

Kombucha is a fermented beverage made from black or green tea, sugar, and a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast (SCOBY). While kombucha is mostly known as a drink that is beneficial for gut health when consumed, it has also grown popular in the skincare industry for it’s pre and probiotic skin balancing benefits and microbiome support, which is why we decided to feature it a key ingredient in our Goji Berry Kombucha facial cleanser.

Why We Love It

Kombucha contains antioxidants, such as polyphenols and Vitamins C and E, which can help neutralize free radicals and protect the skin from oxidative stress. This can contribute to a reduction in premature aging and skin damage caused by environmental factors. The presence of Vitamin C in kombucha can potentially help in brightening the skin and promoting a more even skin tone. Vitamin C is known for its ability to inhibit melanin production, which can help reduce the appearance of dark spots and hyperpigmentation. Fermented products like Kombucha contain beneficial prebiotic and probiotic bacteria that can support the skin's microbiome. A healthy skin microbiome is essential for maintaining skin health and can potentially help with skin conditions like acne and inflammation. It also contain natural enzymes acids that gently slough off dead skin cells by speeding up the cell turnover rate, can unclog pores and balance sebum, and promote smoother skin texture. Additionally, kombucha can provide hydration to the skin, which is essential for maintaining skin elasticity and suppleness and is known for it’s soothing, anti-inflammatory properties.

Kombucha in Dahlia Skincare

Our Goji Berry Kombucha Cleanser contains a powerful blend of nourishing antioxidants and barrier-strengthening probiotics to keep the skin clear and balanced and is a great daily facial cleanser for most skin types. The kombucha in our cleanser is created through the same process that the beverage goes through. Tea leaves are steeped in hot water, and sugar is added. Once the mixture cools down, a SCOBY culture is added to the sweetened tea. The SCOBY is a rubbery, gelatinous disc composed of various bacteria and yeast that initiate the fermentation process. As the beneficial bacteria and yeast consumes the sugar and tea compounds, it produces beneficial organic acids, enzymes, and other bioactive compounds, giving rise to kombucha. Once the kombucha is fermented, it can be extracted from the brewing vessel or filtered to remove any solid residues or large particles. Kombucha is then concentrated to enhance its active components or to increase its stability in skincare products and then is added into our facial wash. This key ingredient is intentionally potent in this product, so the skin can soak up all of the beneficial antioxidants and microbiome support from this superfood.
